Israel- Road to Jericho
After visiting the monastery we took a walk down to Jericho. It was probably about a six mile hike down through the valley. The desert is pretty barren, so fortunate for us it was a nice day to be outside walking around. There were lots of caves in the canyon on our way down. Some bigger than others. Jimmy explained to us that this would have been similar to the location of the story of the Good Samaritan. It's was interesting to see that there really could be someone who would rob you and run into the cave to hide. Our Bedouin friends with their donkeys followed us the whole way down the canyon trying to convince us to ride their donkeys. When we actually got down into the valley some more little kids with their donkeys came to us. There actually isn't much left where the original city of Jericho. There are some ruins showing where it was. The old city of Jericho is surrounded by the modern city of Jericho.
