Tuol Sleng & Killing Fields

Part of what Janne (the creator to Tabitha) requires is that everyone who comes out to Cambodia to do the house building is that they go to Tuol Sleng and the Killing Fields.

Tuol Sleng is the Genocide Museum located in Phnom Penh. Tuol Sleng was originally a
school located, but during the Khmer Rouge regime the school was turned into Security Prison S-21. It was used during while the Khmer Rouge was in power (1975-1979) as a prison. Now Tuol Sleng has been turned into a Genocide Museum. While we were there we hired a local to be our tour guide. She walked through and showed us the different buildings were they would hold prisoners. She also shared stories and the history. After Tuol Sleng we headed over to the Killing Fields. The Killing Fields were the place where the people were taken to be killed by the Khmer Rouge. They were all buried in mass graves. Now if is a memorial to all those who died there. One of the main focuses of the Killing fields is the commemorative stupa filled with the skulls of all the victims. It was rather sobering to see all the skulls. We than walked around to where they found some of the mass graves. It's a rather peaceful place, much like a cemetery is. Overall it was a very eye opening experience.
